And people say advertising doesn't pay!
Many moons ago, my Significant-Other-and-Common-Law-Partner-in-Crime (SOaCLPiC) were invited to a birthday shindig at a Mexican place called Jalapenos. Jalapenos was one of the best restaurants we had ever been to. One of the shindig guests, who was Mexican, said that it was one of the best Mexican places in Toronto, along with El Mariachi and Dos Amigos.
Me and SOaCLPic went to El Mariachi, but vastly preferred Jalapenos. Then one day, the folks at Jalapenos were rude to us. Then they were rude to us again. And then we stopped going cuz we had better things to do than be insulted by restaurant managers. And that's when we stopped doing Mexican.
Anyways, we used to pass by Dos Amigos all the time on our way to our friends' house, but never went in. It was in a weird location, next to a bunch of sad looking houses, in front of a municipal bus garage or something and up the street from a medical supply store. Not really a happening neighbourhood.
Then one day, I was watching TV and the place was featured on a restaurant show. It looked amazing. So one night, we went. And man, was it not the cat's meow?
Dos Amigos makes these little things, tostadas, that are like heaven in a bite and a half! They're crispy tortillas topped with meat and cheese and salad and they come in plates of three and make a really, really nice opener or snack. They are messy to eat, but worth every embarassing dribble down your hand!
And they have pozole soup. Nuff said.
And they have three milk cake that will make you believe in god (or in three milk cake, depending on how many margaritas you've had).
Oh and churros. Nothing says love like churros!
And the ambiance is ideal for a romantic evening out. If it weren't for the medical supply store, I'd call it a great first-date location. (But who the hell wants to be reminded of sickness on a first date?)
My only problem with the place are the bathrooms. The bathrooms were made for hobbits. I'm only 5 feet tall, but I could touch he ceiling without fully extending my arm! You may want to go elsewhere to pee if you're taller than, say, 5'5".
Also, the place is always packed, so you may want to make reservations. And don't worry about parking: you can park at the medical supply store.
Anyways, after going to Dos Amigos a few times, I asked my friend who lives nearby if she ever went. She said, "No. The place is next to that weird medical supply store and I figured it was a dive."
